Seoul, South Korea
May 31, 2018
The Philippines and South Korea established bilateral relations in March 3, 1949 after the Philippines extended diplomatic recognition to the nascent Republic of Korea. It was in May 1953 when the Philippines founded a legation in the Republic of Korea led by Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, Minister Tomas de Castro.
The Philippines opened a full Embassy in 1958 under the leadership of Ambassador Eduardo Quintero. Since then, the Embassy has assisted in several exchanges of visits by the leaders of the two countries, and pursued further cooperation with various government agencies and stakeholders.
At present, South Korea is one of the Philippines’ major trading partner, being the 6th export market and the 3rd major source of investment promotion.
